Vishwa Sarbajan Sangh founded by Sarbajeet Bishwakarma in 1946, Nepal Samaj Sudhar Sangh set up by Jadubir Bishwokarma in 1947and Tailor’s Union initiated by Saharshanath Kapali in 1947 challenged the caste based discrimination even amidst the cruelties of Rana oligarchy that not only left people bereft of political freedom but also imposed caste based social stratification providing untouchability a legal status. In a way, these pioneering Dalit movements challenged the caste-based policies imposed by the Rana oligarchy and hence contributed towards the democratic movement in Nepal. Indeed, the Dalit movement in Nepal has been both social and political movement; these are its two main dimensions.
